Books that welcome Black Dads into the ‘New Dad’ club

It wasn’t until I grew older and looked beyond the beloved characters of Heathcliff Huxtable, Uncle Phil and Dre Johnson that I realized how seldom we see stories of present, engaged, and uplifting Black men and Black fatherhood.

Black fathers and father figures play crucial roles in their children’s lives. They navigate the complexities and vast emotional terrain of fatherhood with resilience, strength, and an abundance of love.

They are the lunch-making, game-attending, bedtime-story-reading heroes who often go unrecognized.

I won’t lie, in light of this glaring absence, on this site, this certified Daddy’s Girl may go overboard in my effort to swing the pendulum back toward celebrating Black fathers.

Sure, I actively follow the work of organizations like the Black Daddies Club.  And yes I wholeheartedly embrace their mission to showcase Black fathers in a positive light. And ok I’ve gone as far as writing random posts extolling My love of Black Dads. This is who I am!
