My daughter is a certified bookworm and has her nose in a book every chance she gets. When she was younger, she navigated store aisles all the while never looking up from her favourite book. For younger readers, Because You Are, by Jael Richardson and illustrated by Nneka Myers just filled my heart and will put a smile on the face of young readers. You will enjoy reading this to your little reader and they will love to read it themselves.
If you’ve been here for a while, you’ll know that much to my dismay, my son loved hockey when he was younger. The only thing that would have made me feel better about the whole thing was if we had more books like The Hockey Jersey! This is an adorable book that was written for kids who look like him and who also love the game.
For readers who love graphic novels, you cannot go wrong with Shuri Defender of Wakanda. Even kids who “hate to read” can enjoy a good graphic book. It is the book that keeps on giving – with fun facts and bold graphics that will keep any fan engaged cover to cover.
Books for older readers
Trevor Noah’s Born a Crime is one of my favourite autobiographies. It was delightful to read this book but then unforgettable to listen to Trevor Noah read it as an audiobook. A teenager or older reader would love reading or listening to his original book. Now that they have adapted his book for a younger audience It’s Trevor Noah is a must-read, that readers of any age can enjoy.
